Pilates
What is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced pill-ah-teez) is a unique method of whole body conditioning. This intelligent form of exercise incorporates a balance of stretch and strength training. At the origin of its conception are the abdominal muscles. Core exercises are designed to bring awareness to the torso and to help re-pattern muscular-skeletal imbalances. With a strong, flexible spine and strong flat abs, your body will perform more efficiently. The movements are progressive and fluid with the aid of breath and mental focus. Pilates is for every age and ability. This technique is not only a great form of fitness but a holistic, mind, body and spirit philosophy.

BENEFITS:
• Long Lean Muscles • Increased Flexibility • Balanced Joint Movement
• Improved Posture and Body Awareness • Better Balance and Co-ordination • Enhanced Sports Performance
Joan Bio

Joan has been involved in fitness her entire life. She was a competitive swimmer in her teens, an aerobics instructor in her twenties and a personal trainer in her thirties before she found Pilates.

After a serious back injury that threatened to end her joy of horses she began taking Pilates classes with the encouragement of her chiropractor. After strengthening herself from the inside out she began riding again and was so impressed by this form of fitness that she became a certified Pilates instructor.

Joan is trained and certified in STOTT and Balanced Body Pilates. She teaches beginner and intermediate matwork Pilates classes, specialized classes for pregnancy and equestrian as well as beginner and intermediate Reformer classes.
